Who are Our Space?
Our Space is a charity that is close to many people’s hearts. They provide play and social opportunities for children, young people and adults with disabilities Our Space provides vital and unique facilities and activities for disabled children, young people and adults as well as support for their families. They offer a wide range of respite club sessions, family sessions, holiday activities and much more all based at her specialist premises in Newcastle under Lyme.
We have proudly supported the charity and the vital work it does for people since our establishment 10 years ago. Part of the reason Ann McCabe chose to support Our Space is because they registered as a charity in 2016 and so Our Space is also celebrating their 10 year anniversary this year.
Our fundraising for Our Space
In 2024, members of our team climbed Snowdon for the first time to raise both awareness and funds for the charity so that they can continue supporting families. This year, our team took on the most daring challenge to date… abseiling down an 80-foot drop. Seven of us took part, with some of the team completing the abseil not once, but twice, showing extreme commitment and bravery. Some of us had to overcome a fear of heights to go over the top of the bridge and give their weight to the rope.
The abseil took place at Millers Dale Bridge on 6th September 2026. It was a glorious sunny day. We’re grateful to colleagues, friends and family who turned out to support us. It would have difficult for some of us to climb over the top without your encouragement.
We have raised £3,580.53 for Our Space, which will help fund further support and activities that Our Space provide. As well as giving via our Just Giving page, this sum includes around £1000 raised in cash and gift aid. The sum we raised went a long way towards ensuring that Our Space smashed their total abseil target of £10,000 for their 10th Anniversary year. The challenge was a memorable way to celebrate our long-standing partnership and demonstrates what can be achieved when people rally together for a cause that matters to a lot of people.
What next?
Our Space are continuing to raise funds whilst celebrating their 10th anniversary and have recently launched their 10 for 10 fundraising challenge. You can choose your own activity, provided that it includes the number 10. Not everybody enjoys taking risks and jumping off bridges, but you can support the charity in other ways which don’t entail fearing that a rope may snap! It could be something as simple as doing a ten-minute walk for ten days, or something as extreme as running 10km a week for 10 weeks. It can be a fun and silly way to help the charity who provide so much for others. The choices are limitless and the challenge is running for four months, ending on 16th February 2027 which marks the end of their 10th anniversary year.
You can get involved by emailing office@ourspacestaffs.org.uk with your challenge, and they can set your challenge up properly. Alternatively you can visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19KdxHM5BC/ for more information
We would like to thank everyone who has donated and wished our colleagues luck as they took on the challenge.
