Good Divorce Week 2020

November 28, 2020 By Ann McCabe

Resolution Specialist

Ann McCabe Solicitors in Newcastle under Lyme mark GOOD DIVORCE WEEK 2020 by supporting FREE ADVICE SESSIONS

Family law professionals throughout the country are showing their support for Good Divorce Week 2020 by offering free advice sessions to families. Good Divorce Week takes place from 30 November to 4 December 2020.  Many lawyers who are members of Resolution are offering free initial advice by telephone this week but this is not something that is new to lawyers in Newcastle under Lyme and Stoke on Trent.  Like us at Ann McCabe Solicitors, many local family lawyers have been providing free initial advice, either by telephone or face to face for years, particularly since Legal Aid was withdrawn for most in 2013.

Good Divorce Week is an annual campaign that aims to promote practical and constructive ways for separating parents to put the needs of their children first. Organised by Resolution, a community of more than 6,500 family justice professionals, this year the campaign focuses around the benefits of early legal advice, as the organisation prepares to re-launch its public facing Code of Practice.

Resolution members believe the process of separating, sorting out finances and arranging childcare should be done in a way that minimises conflict and keeps the best interests of any children involved at the heart of proceedings.

There is no silver bullet approach to divorce, as every family is different. However, by seeking early professional advice, couples have the benefit of considering a range of options and making a decision that is most suitable to them.

To help in promoting the benefits of early legal advice, during Good Divorce Week, lawyers, mediators and financial advisors across the country will be offering 30-minute free advice sessions to those families who need it, including in Newcastle-Under-Lyme.

When you first contact us…

The first step when you contact us will be to organise a convenient time for you to speak by telephone to one of our lawyers, specialising in the issues that you face.   We always find that this first conversation is useful to the caller and often can be a turning point in their life.   We can give clear advice about your options and the next steps that you should take begin to resolve the issues you face. If we don’t hear from you again, that may be a good thing as it means that we have equipped you in one call to deal with things on your own from then on.  More often than not, the caller does need our help again and we will give you clear advice as to what would happen next if you decide to instruct us to represent you.

It’s very difficult for parents when they make that tough decision to separate, and often there is a significant impact upon children.  The aim of Good Divorce Week is to promote a constructive approach to this often emotionally charged matter.  This is an opportunity for couples to fully understand all of their rights and the options open to them and separate in the most harmonious way possible.

Far too many families have little-to-no access to professional legal advice when it comes to divorce. The free advice we offer gives separating couples the confidence and knowledge to make the best decisions for them and their family with minimal conflict.
