If you have followed recent posts, you may be aware that a team of colleagues at Ann McCabe Solicitors embarked on a mountain climbing charity event to Mount Snowdon in a bid to raise funds for Our Space. Our Space is a charity based in Newcastle under Lyme who help support children and their families with additional needs providing play facilities, activities, and respite.
Sammi, Jemma and Zuleika made it to the summit, despite difficult weather conditions, and raised over £1700 (including gift aid) for the charity. An amazing achievement.
Sammi stated ‘I wanted to help the local charity by offering our time to help with some gardening works. However, when I heard that they were doing this mountain climb to raise funds, I thought it was a good opportunity and despite being an inexperienced climber, I immediately decided to participate and of course roped in some of my colleagues’ This cause is close to my heart as my niece has Autism and it is charities like Our Space who provide much-needed support to children and their families, which without funds they would not be able to do. I can honestly say I was completely out of my comfort zone and my legs were burning on the way up and like jelly on the way down. ’
As the team arrived at Pen Y Pass, the visibility was poor and misty and they could not see the top of Snowdon. They took the Miners track which they admit they found more difficult than they had realised. As they reached the halfway point, it was clear that none of them had mentally prepared for the climb and winds became strong reaching up to around 60mph. However, they all encouraged each other and proceeded to reach the summit.
They finished the climb in 4 hours and decent within 2 hours and whilst they none of them could walk properly for a good few days after they are proud of what they have achieved.
Ann McCabe says” I couldn’t be more proud of Sammi, Jemma and Zuleika. This was such a difficult climb. I know I wouldn’t have made it to the top. The support of the donors and their desire to help the Our Space charity is what kept them going”
Thank you to everyone who donated and wished them well on their climb, the funds raised will be well used by Our Space. On 19th September 2024, Sammi and Jemma attended the Connects Networking meeting at Our Space, in lovely sunny weather. They had a tour of the great facilities that Ann McCabe Solicitors have supported since 2016
Although our fundraising page has closed, you can still donate direct to Our Space on their page here
