Ann McCabe Solicitors were the first local lawyers to launch Resolution Together, the One Lawyer Model, a service established by Resolution in 2022.
This service is for separating couples who want to navigate the legal consequences of their separation together rather than instructing separate solicitors.
You don’t have to agree on a settlement before you come to see us. We can guide you through the process and help you reach a settlement together.
If this proves impossible, you can choose to instruct separate lawyers and go to court, but we do our best to avoid this.
A separating couple can instruct the same lawyer to advise
Ann McCabe was the first solicitor in the Stoke on Trent, Newcastle under Lyme and Crewe area, (possibly even the first in Staffordshire and Cheshire) to offer this service.
Resolution is an organisation of lawyers and other professionals specialising in Family Law. In 2022, they launched a new model of working called Resolution Together. The model stays consistent with all current regulations set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, whilst enabling experienced family specialists to act for both parties in a separation. In March 2023, Ann McCabe attended the training necessary to follow this new model and now uses the documents, provided by Resolution, to ensure the interests of both clients are protected.
For family lawyers, this is a radical departure from how we have always dealt with divorce and separation. However, we hope working for two clients at once shall become the norm. Those who want to work amicably together will wonder why we didn’t offer the Resolution Together service sooner.
Seeking legal advice prevents problems in the long run
Of course, lawyers will never meet many completely amicable couples — especially those not married. Many try to resolve issues with minimal cost and conflict, avoiding lawyers for fear it will create more division. They risk making mistakes or missing things out, causing further problems in the long run. The One Lawyer Model is a much better option for those couples to resolve everything properly and efficiently.
Undeniably, many couples separate precisely because they cannot work together. We will not act for both parties where there is domestic abuse or risk of harm to a child.
