At Ann McCabe Solicitors, supporting local families doesn’t end when we leave the office. It’s something that matters to us on a personal level. That’s why a team of our colleagues embarked on a mountain-climbing charity event to Mount Snowdon—in a bid to raise funds for Our Space. A charity based in Newcastle Under Lyme, Our Space provides play facilities, activities and respite for children, young people and adults with disabilities.
Despite difficult weather conditions, Sammi, Jemma and Zuleika made it to the summit. They raised over £1700 (including gift aid) for the charity. An incredible achievement!
Climbing for a cause close to home
Sammi said: “I wanted to support the local charity by helping with some gardening work. However, when I heard that they were doing a mountain climb to raise funds, I thought it was a good opportunity.
“Despite being an inexperienced climber, I immediately decided to participate and, of course, roped in some of my colleagues. This cause is close to my heart as my niece has Autism. Charities like Our Space are key to supporting local families and children. And without funds, they would not be able to provide the much-needed aid.”
Reflecting on the climb, Sammi admitted: “I was completely out of my comfort zone. My legs were burning on the way up and felt like jelly on the way down.”
Rising to the challenge together
As the team arrived at Pen Y Pass, the visibility was poor. A thick mist obscured the mountain’s peak. They took the Miners’ Track which, the trio confessed, they found more difficult than expected. By the halfway point, with winds hitting 60mph, they realised they hadn’t fully prepared for what lay ahead. But, supporting one another, they pressed forward and reached the top.
They climbed up in four hours and descended in two, and though they could barely walk for days after, they’re proud of their achievement.
Ann McCabe said: “I couldn’t be more proud of Sammi, Jemma and Zuleika. This was such a difficult climb. I know I wouldn’t have made it to the top. The support of the donors and their desire to help the Our Space charity is what kept them going.”
Thank you to everyone who donated and wished them well on their climb. The funds raised will be well used by Our Space. On 19th September 2024, Sammi and Jemma attended the Connects Networking meeting at Our Space. Enjoying a beautiful, sunny day, they toured the great facilities that Ann McCabe Solicitors have supported since 2016.

Although our fundraising page has closed, you can still donate directly to Our Space via their JustGiving page.
